The landscape and use of the pub has changed many times over the years.  Originally the site of the local meeting house or Moot Hall - probably dating back to the the 15th Century.  The orignal building was also occupied as a mill keeper's house and original 16th/17th Century features still remain in situ.  The Fireplace in the dining room (The Moot as we call it) bears the initials of the owners at the time.

Converted into dwellings the building now features a complex of rooms - most with original fireplaces and features, including the bread oven at the top part of the Moot.  The adjoining cottage keeps the orignal alcove and stone flooring.

The Moot and several rooms are also home to our resident spirit - Harry Winder, who lived here.  He makes his presence known from time to time, but never in a spooky way - he just likes to remind us that we are sharing his space!  We are grateful to his 'earthly' family for filling us in with his details - and a photograph of him is now to be found in the pub.
